Hedgehogs in decline?

Appeared on Space For Nature on September 29th 2003

A recent survey in Leicester indicates that hedgehogs (Erinaceus europaeus) have decline by 10% since 1994.

 Details
The environmental charity 'Environ' carried out the hedgehog survey in conjunction with the city council as part of the "Wild About Leicester Survey". If the suggested 10% decline in hedgehog numbers since the last comparable survey in 1994 is accurate, then it's bad news for the slug-loving hedgehogs and for their gardener hosts.
